Defense Propels Cardinals to Sweep of Missouri Western

The William Jewell volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of the Mabee Center on Tuesday night where they earned a three set sweep of Missouri Western. The Cardinals improve to 11-16 on the season with the win. 

How it Happened
  • The Cardinals broke out in front early behind two kills from Tori Vogt only to see Missouri Western rally to take a 13-12 lead. Jewell finished the set on 12-4 run aided by five blocks from, including three from Meghan Tauke to take the opener. 
  • Set two was a battle from the first serve with the largest lead coming at 7-4 after a kill from the Griffon's Danielle Moje. Tied at 20 Jewell got back-to-back kills from Maddie Wingert and Elizabeth Quinn to take a three point advantage on their way to the four point win. 
  • Jewell again jumped out in front in the final set, leading by as many as six. Missouri Western pulled within three late but a kill from Vogt ended the Griffon's rally attempt. 

For the Cardinals
  • The Cardinals were led offensively by Wingert's 11 kills while Grace Baucom added 10. 
  • Wingert also finished with five blocks while Quinn and Tauke each had four. 
  • Megan Rhule and Lauren Castaneda were balanced chipping in 14 and 16 assists respectively. 
  • Vogt collected 14 digs while Kennedy Ruckh added 10. 

For the Griffons
  • Ali Tauchen finished with 14 kills and one block to lead the Griffons. 
  • Lauren Murphy posted a match-high 36 assists while Tiana Butler had 13 digs.
