Box Score The William Jewell volleyball team got off to a strong start on Friday night but could not hold off Bellarmine University as they fell 3-1 by scores of 26-24, 15-25, 12-25, 20-25. The Cardinals fall to 11-17 on the season and 4-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

How it Happened

• Jewell jumped out to an early 4-0 lead aided by three attack errors by the Knights and a service ace from Lauren Castaneda. Bellarmine battled back midway through set one to force a timeout by head coach Carolyn Raynes. Tied at 23, both teams exchanged errors before kills from Castaneda and Maddie Wingert gave the Cardinals the set 26-24. 
• After a timeout midway through set two the Knights went on a 12-3 run to finish the set and win 25-15. 
• Set three way all Knights as they cruised to a 25-12 victory. 
• In the finale, Bellarmine took an early lead only to see the Cardinals respond with a 7-1 run to close the gap and force another timeout. The Cardinals pulled as close as 22-20 but three straight kills ended the rally. 

For the Cardinals

• Wingert finished with a team-high 12 kills to go along with three blocks. 
• Kennedy Ruckh posted a team-best 20 digs, while Castaneda added 14, Megan Rhule 13 and Mary Booton 11.
• Rhule and Castaneda each had 13 assists. 
• Senior Meghan Tauke collected a career-high seven blocks. 

For the Knights

• Jayme Scott led three players in double-figures with 23 kills to go along with 11 digs and four blocks. 
• Karleigh Wilson finished with a match-high 25 digs.
