Quick Start Leads Cardinals to 75-52 Victory over Central Christian

The William Jewell men's basketball closed the opening semester with a 75-52 win over Central Christian College of the Bible on Friday night to move to 5-4 on the season. 

How it Happened
  • Jewell got off to a fast start as Jackson Golightly got an alley-oop pass from Eysan Wiley for a bucket just nine seconds into the game. After the Saints pulled within one, the Cardinals went on a 15-1 run after a jumper from Mason Alexander
  • The Cardinals came out of the gates in the second half and quickly expanded their lead to 23 after back-to-back dunks from Wiley. Central Christian battled back to pull within 16  with just over 11 minutes to play but the Cardinals used a 12-2 run over the next five minutes, capped by a three pointer from Robbie Hanson to push the lead back to 24. 

For the Cardinals
  • Jewell was led offensively by Golightly's career-high 22 points. Wiley added a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots. 
  • The Cardinals shot 44% from the field and scored 75% of their points from deep in the paint. 
  • Jewell turned the ball over just 10 times, a season-best, leading to 13 points. 
  • The bench outscored CCCB reserves 24-4, led by Deandre Raggs and Kobe McKinley with eight a piece. 

For the Saints
  • Andre Johnson scored a team-high 21 points for Central Christian, who played Friday's game as an exhitibion. 
  • Kedron Rollings added 13 points while Clifford Detiege grabbed 10 boards. 
  • The Saints were held to just a 30.6% clip from the floor and connected on just 13% form the three-point line.

Jewell is off until after the winter break. They will return to action on Thursday, January 2 as they host Truman State at 7:30 p.m.
