Head coach Larry Holley and the William Jewell men's basketball team squared off against Quincy University on Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley matchup, defeating the Hawks 90-73. The Cardinal offense showed up early and stayed consistent through the entire game. The victory improves the Cardinals to 11-16 overall and 5-8 in GLVC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• 1st Half: Pharroh Gordon scored the first points of the day for Jewell with a shifty move followed by a layup in the paint. Eysan Wiley followed up by finding a wide open Mason Alexander beyond the three point line to get things rolling for the Cardinals early. The fast paced and efficient offense from Jewell pushed its lead to double digits midway through the half. Byron Harp kept things going with another Cardinal three pointer. With eight minutes remaining in the half, Wiley delivered a swat the set up teammate Jackson Golightly with an open jump shot on the other end. At the half Jewell held a comfortable lead at 46-27. 
• 2nd Half: After the break Keith Hayes and Alexander stopped an attempted surge from the Hawks with back-to-back three pointers. Hayes held the hot hand for Jewell in the second half and completed seven shots from the field. Nick Bradley was able to cause a Quincy turnover and then hit Golightly who finished at the rim with a one handed slam. John Ekwomadu joined in on the scoring with a lay in that capped off the Jewell victory at 90-73.
