The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped the final home game of the season on Saturday to Rockhurst University by a score of 96-80. The Cardinals fall to 11-17 overall and 5-11 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. 


HOW IT HAPPENED

• 1st Half: Trailing 9-3 early the Cardinals got a three from Keith Hayes followed by buckets from Byron Harp and Eysan Wiley to pull within 14-10. From there the Hawks went on a 15-5 run to take a 14 point advantage with 7:33 to play in the opening half. Jewell followed with a  8-2 run of their own to pull back within eighth after a layup from Hayes. The Hawks outscored Jewell 14-8 over the next three and half minutes but Wiley nailed a three with just seconds on the clock to make it a 45-34 game at the half. 
• 2nd Half: Jewell used seven combined points from Hayes and Wiley over the first five minutes of the second period to pull within seven but the Hawks went on a 21-9 run over the next 10 minutes to take their largest lead of the day at 79-60. The Cardinals made things interesting down the stretch pulling within nine with under three minutes to go but were forced to foul allowing Rockhurst to push the advantage back to double digits. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jewell shot just 39 percent from the floor while the Hawks connected on 60 percent of shots. 
• The Cardinals forced 12 turnovers while committing just five.
