Comeback Effort Falls Short Against No. 6 Quincy

The William Jewell baseball team put the winning run in scoring position but the rally came up just short as the Cardinals fell 10-8 to No. 6 Quincy on Sunday at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • B3: Chase Redick reached base on a fielder's choice allowing Austin Kline to cross the plate to put Jewell on the board in the third. With the bases loaded, Trent Bollman was hit by a pitch, the third of the frame for the Hawk hurler, to score Trenton Worley, followed by a sac fly from Christian Chalabi to put the Cardinals in front. (3-2, Jewell)
  • T4: The Hawks responded with five runs on five hits to retake the lead. (7-3, QU)
  • B5: RBI singles from Redick, Nick Gavin, and Nick Modrcin plated three runs and pulled the Cardinals within one after five innings. (7-6, QU)
  • T7: Carter Naughton sent a ball over the left field wall to put the Hawks on top by two. (8-6, QU)
  • B8: With two runners on, Trent Worley singled to center to again make it a one run game. (8-7, QU)
  • T9: A two-run home run by Jeff Hightown expanded he lead to three in the ninth. (10-7, QU)
  • B9: With two outs, Chalabi singled to right to score Redick and pull the Cardinals within two. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases but a ground ball fielder's choice ending the rally. (10-8, QU)
