Cardinals Battle but Fall at Indianapolis

The William Jewell baseball team took Indianapolis to the wire, but came up just short in the opener of a three-game series on Friday. The loss drops Jewell to 15-19-1 and 9-13 in league play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: Tyler Murphy continued his hot streak in the opening inning, homering in his third straight game to put Jewell on top early. (1-0, Jewell)
  • B1: The Greyhounds got two runs on no hits, taking advantage of two Cardinal errors to take their first lead. (2-1, UIndy)
  • B2: UIndy extended their lead to five in the second, plating four on two hits and two more Jewell miscues. (6-1, UIndy)
  • T3: Anthony Hansen helped the Cards get back into the game with a two RBI double to right center, scoring Murphy and Trenton Worley (6-3, UIndy)
  • T5: Austin Kline reached on an infield single, allowing Murphy to cross the plate to make it a two run game. (6-4, UIndy)
  • B5: The Hounds got a run back on a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth. (7-4, UIndy)
  • The following inning, Mason Goade doubled down the right field and scored on a single off the bat of Worley (7-5, UIndy)
  • T7: Chase Redick made things interesting late by welcoming the new UIndy pitcher with a lead off solo home run to bring the Cardinals within one. (7-6, UIndy
