The William Jewell baseball team got a clutch ninth-inning hit from
Mason Goade in game two to split the opening doubleheader with Lewis University. The Cardinals took the nightcap 8-7 after falling 9-4 in the opener to move to 16-24-1 overall and 10-16 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: Lewis immediately jumped on the board with a solo home by run by leadoff hitter Brandon Post, followed by an RBI walk. (2-0, LU)
- B3: The Cardinals cut the lead in half on a fielder's choice that allowed Goade to cross the plate (2-1, LU)
- T5: The Flyers used an error and a sac fly to score two more in the fifth and expand their lead. (5-1, LU)
- T6: Back-to-back singles to the right side allowed Lewis to add two more tallies and make it a six run game. (7-1, LU)
- B6: The Cardinals did not go quietly as Christian Chalabi doubled down the left field line to plate two, before scoring himself on an RBI single from Nick Modrcin. (7-4, LU)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- T1: Lewis again jumped on top early in game two, taking advantage of an error. (1-0, LU)
- B3: The Cardinals took their first lead of the day after doubles from Redick, Nick Gavin, and Zac Vorst, along with an sac fly from Anthony Hansen. (3-1, Jewell)
- T6: The Flyers got back-to-back hits in the sixth to plate two and tie the game. (3-3)
- B7: Jewell took advantage of three consecutive free passes to open the seventh frame, retaking the lead on a single from Nick Gavin. Chalabi followed with a base hit while Chase Fiddler added a sac fly RBI to push the Cardinal lead to four. (7-3, Jewell)
- T8: Lewis used an two RBI hits, including a triple by Post to pull within one in the eighth. (7-6, Jewell)
- T9: Down to their final at bat, the Flyers got consecutive hits down the right field line to tie the game. (7-7)
- B9: Jewell got two walks and a single from Fiddler to load the bases with just one out for Goade who sent a hit over the head of the Lewis centerfield to score the winning run. (8-7, Jewell)
