Cardinals Drop Two at Drury

The William Jewell baseball dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Drury University on Saturday by scores of 4-1 and 9-8. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 1, Drury 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B1: The Panthers jumped on top early in the opener with a two run home run by Aaron Mann. (2-0, DU)
  • T3: Tyler Murphy put Jewell on the board in the third with an RBI groundout. (2-1, DU)
  • B3: Drury push their lead back to two in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double. (3-1, DU)
  • B5: The Panthers took advantage of three Jewell errors in the fifth to push another run across. (4-1, DU)

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
ON THE MOUND
  • Win: Kale Schmidt (3-3) earned the win going eight innings allowing just a single earned run. 
  • Loss: Mack Stephenson (3-6) took the loss allowing three earned on nine hits. 
  • Save: Alex Austin (3) got the save, tossing the final frame. 

GAME TWO
Jewell 8, Drury 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • T1: In the nightcap it was the Cardinals who struck first on a RBI groundout from Anthony Hansen. (1-0, Jewell)
  • T3: The Cardinals extended their lead to three in the second as Nick Modrcin scored on a sac fly followed by Fiddler crossing the plate on a wild pitch. (3-0, Jewell)
  • B3: Drury cut into the lead with two runs on six hits in the bottom of the third. (3-2, Jewell)
  • T5: Jewell put up a crooked number in the fifth on RBI from Modrcin, Goade, Trent Bollman, and Austin Kline to push their lead to five. (7-2, Jewell)
  • B7: The Panthers got a two-run home run from Clayton Engle to pull within three. (7-4, Jewell)
  • B8: Drury scored four runs on four hits in the eighth to take a late lead. (8-4, DU)
  • T9: Down to their final at bat the Cardinals rallied as Ben Pautler singled and scored on a base hit by Bollman. (8-8)
  • B9: The Panthers got a RBI double from Brandt Ollinger to give Drury the walk-off win.

  • Win: Kaden Helsel (6-5) earn the win in relief, working four and one-thirds. 
  • Loss: Tyler Muprhy (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing three earned runs over one and one-thirds innings.
