The William Jewell volleyball team fell 3-1 to Southern Indiana on Friday night in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and home opener by scores of 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25. The Cardinals drop to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in GLVC play.
How it Happened
- Jewell fell into an early 7-4 hole in the opening set but but got three kills from Tori Vogt to pull within one at 13-12. The Eagles took advantage of four consecutive errors to pull ahead by six on their way to the win.
- The Cardinals came out strong in the second set, jumping on top 17-9 behind five kills from Paityn Hardison. The Screaming Eagles rallied to outscore Jewell 16-6 the rest of the way and steal the win 25-23.
- Down two sets the Cardinals took set three after win eight of ten points to pull ahead 21-14 before winning by eight.
- Down by one, USI went on a 8-5 run to take a 14-10 lead. The Cardinals pulled within three, 17-14, but USI's early lead was too much to overcome.
For the Cardinals
- Vogt finished with 14 kills on 42 attempts to go along with seven digs and three blocks.
- Kennedy Ruckh paced the defense with 12 digs while Meghan Tauke collected five blocks.
- Lauren Castaneda posted 21 assists.
For the Screaming Eagles
- Leah Anderson topped three players in double-figures with 17 kills.
- Casey Cepicky handed out a game-high 42 assists.
- Audrey Crowder finished with a game-high 13 digs.
- The Eagles posted seven service aces to Jewell's two.
