The William Jewell volleyball team hit a season-high .356 on Saturday as they swept McKendree University by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-17. The win moves the Cardinals to 5-8 on the season and 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
How it Happened
- McKendree jumped out to an early lead in the opening set only to see the Cardinals go on a 14-2 run and to pull ahead 18-10. Five of Jewell's final seven points came off kills from Tori Vogt in the win.
- Set two was a back-and-forth game until midway when two kills each from Maddie Wingert and Elizabeth Quinn helped the Cardinals go in front by 16-10. The Bearcats got back within three but the Cardinals got three straight kills to finish the set.
- Jewell did not let up in set three, going on a 9-2 run to take a 19-11 lead. The teams traded points the rest of the way but the Cardinal lead was just too much for McKendree to overcome.
For the Cardinals
- Jewell committed just nine hitting errors on the day, three in each set for a season-best .356 attack percentage.
- The Cardinals also out-blocked McKendree 7-1.
- Wingert led the team with a game-high 16 kills with just one error for a .635 attack percentage.
- Quinn added a season-high nine kills with no errors for a .563 clip and four blocks.
- Lauren Castaneda led the offense with 25 assists.
- Kennedy Ruckh paced the defense with 14 kills while Paityn Hardison added 12.
For the Bearcats
- Hope Gramly led the McKendree offense with 13 kills.
- Gracie Marr added 33 assists and 13 digs.
