Cardinals Drop GLVC Decision at Lewis after Cold First Half

The William Jewell men's basketball team went cold in the first half and did not score for more than 11 minutes resulting in a 76-51 loss at Lewis University on Saturday. The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

How it Happened
  • The Cardinals started strong, connecting on their first five shots and opening up a 17-9 lead. The Flyers rallied to take the lead 22-21 with seven minutes to play in the opening half. Over those final seven minutes, Lewis closed the half on a 18-2 run to hold a 40-24 lead at the break.
  • The scoring drought continued well into the second half as Jewell did not score until a three from Kobe McKinley at the 13:57 mark while the Flyers grew their lead to as many as 31. The Jewell bench was able to cut into the lead late, led by back-to-back triples from Trey Shannon, but the damage had been done.

  • Jevaughn Ferguson added seven points, five rebounds, one block, and one steal.
  • Jewell was held to 36% from the field and 37% from three, despite hitting 10 triples.
