Big Second Half Lifts Cardinals Over Maryville

The William Jewell men's basketball team outscored Maryville 51-40 in the second half to down the Saints 83-77 in St. Louis, Mo. The win moves the Cardinals to 7-10 on the season and 2-7 in conference play. 

How it Happened
  • The two teams traded buckets for the first 10 minutes of play before the Saints took a six point lead, 20-14. Jewell followed with a 16-10 run to eventually tie the game at 30. Maryville closed the half with a 7-2 spurt to hold a five point advantage at the break. 
  • Maryville grew their lead to as many as seven in the second half and held off the Cardinals until the midway point when a layup by Eysan Wiley tied the game at 53 before taking the lead on a steal by Kobe McKinley which led to a layup from Nick Bradley. A later free throw from Bradley expanded the Cardinal lead to the biggest of the night at 11 with under three minutes on the clock. The Saints put together a rally, pulling with four late but a dunk by Jackson Golightly sealed the win. 

For the Cardinals
  • Bradley finished with a career-high 19 points and nine assists. 
  • Wiley added 17 points and four blocks while Golightly posted 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. 
  • The freshman McKinley also grabbed a career-best nine rebounds, four steals and five assists. 
  • Jewell assisted on a season-high 25 of 28 field goals. 

For the Saints
  • Jalen Gant led all scorers with 22 points to lead four Saints in double figures. 
  • Maryville outrebounded the Cardinals 55-34.
