The William Jewell women's basketball team outscored Missouri S&T 25-16 in the fourth quarter to hold off the Miners, 88-82 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improve to 7-11 overall and 3-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
How it Happened
- Missouri S&T jumped out to to an 18-10 lead seven minutes into the opening period. Three pointers by Lea Finn and Sydney Offield cut the lead to one before a jumper by Rhyann Fisher gave the Cardinals their first lead since 2-0.
- Jewell continued their run scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the second quarter, capped by another triple from Finn to expand the Cardinal lead to nine. The Miners closed the half on a 22-16 16 run to make it a 48-47 game at the break.
- Missouri S&T opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run to go back on top by seven midway through the period. Fisher again came up at the end of the frame, hitting a three pointer to pull the Caridnals within three.
- After the Miners expanded their lead back to seven the Cardinals rallied. Eleven combined points from Fisher and Sydney Offield pushed the Cardinals from down seen to up six over the next four minutes on their way to the win.
For the Cardinals
- Tolson continued her strong freshman season with yet another career high of 18 points to go along with four assists.
- In total the Cardinals place six in double figures as Finn finished with 16 points, Offield 13, Kiara Bradley 12, Fisher 11, and Burch 10.
- Fisher also added six steals while Burch grabbed her first career double double with 10 rebounds.
For the Miners
- Laura Rodriguez paced the Miners with a game high 24 points while Marta Durk had 13 with Alex Kerr and Jordan Kabetske chipping in 10.
- The Miners finished with 42 points in the pain and 34 off the bench.
