The William Jewell men's basketball team earned their first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season and
Chris McCabe earns the first league win of his career with a 86-74 win over Quincy on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals improve to 6-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference action.
How it Happened
- Jewell fell behind early but rallied to tie the game at 16 before going on top by five with 67 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Hawks got consecutive buckets of the final 43 seconds to make it a one-point game at the half.Â
- The Cardinals came out firing in the second half, outscoring Quincy 6-2 over the first two minutes. After a three from Quincy's Tanner Stuckman, Jewell went on a 11-2 run, capped by a three from Mason Alexander to expand the lead to the biggest of the night at 13. The Hawks pulled with six late in the half but Alexander scored nine points over the final five minutes to keep Quincy at bay.Â
For the Cardinals
- Alexander poured in a career-high 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-10 from three.Â
- Eysan Wiley added a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds while Robbie Hanson put in 17 points and Nick Bradley 10.Â
- The Cardinals shot 50% from the field and connected on 17-of-18 free throws.Â
For the Hawks
- Austin Downing led three players in double figures with 20.Â
- Quincy used nine offensive rebounds to score  13 second-chance points.Â
