Cavallo Tosses Seven Scoreless as Cardinals Defeat Bemidji State

The William Jewell baseball team earned a series opening win over Bemidji State on Friday afternoon by a final of 6-3. With the victory, the Cardinals move to 4-3 on the season. 

How it Happened
  • The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the first inning on RBI from Cameron Fliege and Nick Modrcin. 
  • After four scoreless frames, Jewell doubled their lead after three doubles by Fliege, Modrcin, and Ben Pautler made it 4-0. 
  • The Cardinals plated two more in the seventh on a two-run error by the Beavers. 
  • Bemidji State made things interesting down the stretch, scoring three runs in the ninth but a pop up to second base ended the threat. 

For the Cardinals
  • Fliege led the Cardinals with three hits while scoring two runs and driving in one and swiping two bases. 
  • Modrcin finished with two RBI while Anthony Hansen scored twice. 
  • Shane Cavallo (2-1) earned the win after going seven innings, allowing just three hits, no runs, and striking out six. 

For the Beavers
  • Kade Nelson posted two hits, including a double, to lead Bemidji State. 
  • Jake Olson (1-1) took the loss after allowing four earned over six innings.
