SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team shot a season-best 40% from the three point line but dropped a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Drury on Thursday evening by a final of 94-73. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 1-7 while the Panthers improve to 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got off to a quick start, leading 4-0 early after buckets by Jevaughn Ferguson and Mason Alexander. Drury rebounded with a 13-2 run to take their first lead at 13-7. The Cardinals kept things close for much of the opening half but another run by the Panthers made it a 14 point advantage with just over seven minutes to go and trailed by 11 at the break.
- The Cardinals started the second half, much like the first as they quickly pulled within six just two minutes into the period. Drury expanded their lead back to 11, but a 14-4 run, capped by four straight points five Robbie Hanson brought Jewell within their closest margin since early in the first half at 61-60. Jewell was outscored 33-13 over the final 13 minutes to pull away.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- In addition to their season high from long range, the Cardinals shot 48% overall, their second highest of the year, connecting on 24-of-50 shots.
- Jackson Golightly led Jewell with a season-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds.
- Eysan Wiley added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
- Jewell finished with a season-high 18 assists, led by five each from Alexander and John Zimmerman.
FOR THE PANTHERS
- Five players finished in double-figures for Drury, led by Jason Montgomery's 20. Conley Garrison finished with 17 points, eight assists and six steals.
- The Panthers shot 61.4% from the field and won the paint 48-24.

Jewell is scheduled to travel to Missouri S&T on Saturday for a 3 p.m. rematch with the Miners.
