Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jewell Gets Back on Track with Victory Over Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid on Saturday with a 73-67 comeback win over Missouri S&T. The win moves the Cardinals to 4-6 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out cold in the opening minutes of the game, as Kiara Bradley's layup finally broke the ice three minutes in. After that early basket by the Cardinals it was all Miners over the next five minutes as they went on a 17-6 run to open a nine point advantage.
  • Jewell opened the second period with a 13-4 run to take their first lead since 2-0 after a layup by Ainsley Tolson. The two teams traded points for the remainder of the half and were knotted at 33 at the break.
  • The Miners came out of the locker room on fire, quickly pulling out to a seven point lead before Bradley sparked a 13-0 spurt to push Jewell from down seven to up six in just under three minutes of action.
  • A Macyn Wilbers bucket with 9:05 to play put Jewell on top by 10 and it appeared as though the Cardinals would put things away but the Miners mounted a furious rally to pull within one, 61-60. Jewell outscored the Miners 12-7 over the final minutes to secure the win.

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Tolson led the Cardinals offensively, tying her career high of 20 points for the third time in four games. The sophomore added five rebounds, four assists and three steals while going a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line which is tied for the most by a single player in the GLVC this season. No player has shot 100% from the line with more than nine attempts this year.
  •  Bradley narrowly missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
  • Sydney Offield added 15 points, six boards, three assists and three steals while Wilbers chipped in 10 points.
  • Jewell outrebounded the bigger Miners, 40-35 with Kalli Murphy grabbing six off the bench.

FOR THE MINERS
  • Missouri S&T got 17 points from Marta Durk and a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds from center Alex Kerr.
  • The Miners shot 42.9% from the floor for the game.
