KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a 70-59 decision at crosstown rival Rockhurst on Tuesday evening in a make-up game from December. The Cardinals fall to 1-8 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both offenses started slow in the midweek matchup, combining for just 23 points through the first 10 minutes. With the Cardinals trailing by one, Rockhurst went on a 10-2 run to open up a 22-13 advantage only to see Jewell battle back with a 8-2 run of their own after a three from Eysan Wiley.
• In the second half, the Hawks went on top by 13 before Jewell cut the lead to six, behind nine straight points from Jordan Jermain and Trey Shannon. The Cardinals battled through the final nine minutes but Rockhurst was able to respond to every rally and get the 70-59 win.  

FOR THE CARDINALS

• Wiley posted his second straight double-double to lead the Cardinals, finishing with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. 
• Jermain and Shannon both came off the bench to score career-highs of 14 and 11 points respectively as the Cardinal bench outscored their counterpart 33-15. Shannon also grabbed four rebounds and had two assists. 
• Jewell out-rebounded the Hawks, 34-27, behind Wiley's 11 and Jackson Golightly's nine. 

FOR THE HAWKS

• Curtis Lewis led four Rockhurst players in double-figures with a game-high 21 points. 
• The Hawks won the paint, outscoring the Cardinals 34-16.
