LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team gave Truman State all they could handle on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 51-46 to drop to 5-7 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 9-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In stark contrast to the first meeting between these two teams earlier this month, the Cardinals were the ones to get off the fast start, jumping out to a 9-2 lead after a three from Kiara Bradley. The Bulldogs rallied and ultimately tied things up at 11 by the end of the first quarter.
- Both teams traded baskets through much of the second quarter before Sydney Offield got a jump shot to put Jewell on top 21-19. The Cardinals were lead by the same score at the half after holding Truman scoreless over the final two minutes.
- Another triple from Bradley made it a five point Jewell lead, just 19 seconds into the third quarter but the Bulldogs rallied with 8-0 run to retake a four point lead.
- Truman expanded their lead to as many as eight midway through the fourth quarter. The Cardinals went on a quick 5-0 run to trail by just one with under two minutes to play. Jewell had a couple of looks late but the Bulldogs cashed in on four free throws over the last 95 seconds to secure the win.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Bradley led all scorers with 28 points, on 10-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-7 from three.
- Offield pulled down nine rebounds while Macyn Wilbers dished out three assists.
- The Cardinals pulled down 10 offensive rebounds and forced Truman into 17 turnovers.
FOR THE BULLDOGS
- Hannah Belanger led Truman with 25 points while Katie Jaseckas added a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
