CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals are coming off a 55-10 loss to Southwest Baptist on Saturday. Jewell struggled to slow down Bearcat quarterback Cooper Callis who finished with 512 passing yards and six touchdowns.
  • After totaling 35 rushing yards through the first five games, freshman Jordan Clay exploded last weekend for 106 yards on the ground, the most by a Cardinal since 2019.
  • The Cardinals continue to lead the GLVC and rank 11th in Division II in fewest penalties per game, averaging just 4.33 for 46.5 yards. Meanwhile opponents are committing on average 8.17 for nearly 75 yards.
  • The Cardinals have used a plethora of different players to try to get the offense going, including three different quarterbacks who have started at least one game. Thirteen players have caught at least one pass while 11 have rushed the ball at least once.
  • Jewell quarterback Anthony Pritzel has thrown for 826 yards this fall, putting him at 2,020 for his career, moving up to No. 5 in the NCAA era.
  • Brady Monks now has 1,532 punting yards this season, propelling him to No. 23 all-time in program history. His 38.30 punt average would be No. 12 all-time if the season ended today. In the NCAA era, the redshirt junior is No. 3 with 2,238 career yards.
  • Kobe Oldfield has been a bright spot for the Jewell defense as of late, with 13 tackles and four defended passes in the last two games. The senior out of Georgia has been pushed into the starting rotation due to injuries, is now third on the the team with 28 tackles, including three for loss, to go with five breakups.
  • The Cardinals have shown ability to stop the run through the first half of the season, allowing just 150.3 rushing yards, third best in the GLVC, but have had trouble stopping the pass. Jewell enters week seven ranked last in the conference in passing yards allowed, at more than 355 per game.
  • Jewell has blocked two kicks on the season, tied with Missouri S&T for the GLVC lead while also ranking sixth nationally. Oldfield and Carlos Lopez have been credited with the blocks.

ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
  • Missouri S&T enters the week at 2-4 on the season and 0-2 on the season, having lost their last three.
  • Despite the record, the Miners are one of the top offensive teams in the league, averaging nearly 40 points per game (38.8) and 482 yards of total offense.
  • Like the Cardinals, S&T has had some fluidity at the quarterback position with four different players seeing time under center and multiple QBs used in three of six games, including last week's 38-21 loss to Truman in which all four quarterbacks attempted at least three passes. Through the midway point, Luke Hertzler and Brennan Simms have seen the most action with four games each with 808 and 699 yards, respectively.
  • The Miners post a fairly balanced attack with an average of 191 rushing yards and 288 yards through the air. On the ground, Aaron Moy and Payton McAlister lead the way with 429 and 280 yards respectively and a combined seven scores.
  • Breon Michel is by far the top target in the receiving core with 753 yards and nine touchdowns.
  • Defensively Ben Straatmann makes the most stops at 7.5 per game, seventh best in the GLVC, to go along with 6.5 sacks for 32 yards
  • Todd Drury is now in his third season with the Miners after a three-year stint as the defensive coordinator.
