Jewell Hosts UIS, Lewis in Final Home Games of 2021

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team returns home for the final time this season as they host Illinois Springfield on Friday night and Lewis on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals are coming off a tough weekend that saw them get shutout twice at No. 21 UIndy and Southern Indiana.
  • Clara Fronabarger continues to be one of the top distributors in the GLVC, coming into the week ranked fourth in the league with three assists. The freshman also leads the team with 20 shots and is tops among rookies with 937 minutes. 
  • Emily Glassman is up to 45 saves on the season, good for fourth in the GLVC while Katie Wagenheim tied her career-high with 13 last week to move up to 14th. As a whole Jewell's keeper staff is first in the conference with 7.83 saves per game and 92 total combined saves. 
  • Four players have scored once this season, all of which are first career goals. Despite being a fifth-year player, Alex Johnson posted her first score as a Cardinal against Maryville while transfers Paige Liston and Corrine Hughes also got their first tallies. Kate Lawrence, a sophomore, got her first goal against McKendree in early October. 
  • The Cardinals will honor three seniors this weekend as four-year letterwinners Jasmine Collier and Kaylie Kappelmann, along with the transfer Johnson will have their final games in Greene Stadium. 
     
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
  • Illinois Springfield enters the week at 6-3-1 overall, 4-3 in the GLVC, a stark improvement over their 2-9-1 mark last spring. 
  • The Stars come into Friday's match ranked fifth in the league with 4.00 points per game and sixth with 14 total goals. Sierra Cenek leads the way with five scores, which is fifth best in the conference. 
  • The only player who boasts more saves than Jewell's Glassman is the Stars' Allison Mirimanian who has 52. The freshman keeper had a season-best 10 against Southern Indiana to close September. 
  • UIS is coached by Erin Egolf, now in her sixth season, whose 29 wins are the most in program history. She is also the all-time leader in points and goals as a player for the Stars from 2010-2012. 
     
ABOUT LEWIS 
  • Lewis comes in on a two-game skid but sitting at 5-3-2 on the season and 3-3-2 in conference play.
  • The offense is led by Cali Havelka-Vanderplow who leads the team with three goals and three assists with 16 shots. 
  • Lucy Clark has started all but one game in goal for the Flyers, making 27 saves, while her .818 save percentage is fifth best in the league. 
  • Chris Koenig is now in his 15th season with the Flyers with four appearances in the GLVC Tournament.
