LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell volleyball team put together one of the biggest rallies of the season on Saturday at McKendree, coming back from down two sets to force a fifth but fell in extra points. The Cardinals are now 7-18 on the season, 1-12 in the GLVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opener was a back-and-forth affair with neither team taking more than a three point lead. Trailing 22-19 late, the Cardinals got a kill from Bella LaPorta followed by back-to-back McKendree errors to tie things up. The Bearcats won three of the final four points to take the opener, 25-23.
- Set two was another tight one, as each time one team went ahead, the other rallied. McKendree used a 5-1 run midway through to open up a 20-16 lead only to see Jewell rally and pull within 24-23, led by two blocks from Tatum Ernt. A Cardinal error, however, gave the Bearcats a two set lead, 25-23.
- The Bearcats opened set three with a 7-4 advantage but Jewell used a 9-2 run, capped by another block by Ernt, to go in front, 13-9. McKendree rallied to eventually tie the set at 23. Jewell got back-to-back kills from LaPorta and Katy Garrison to take set three, 25-23.
- The Cardinals owned set four, jumping out to an 18-9 lead, capped by three straight points from Chloe Robison on a kill and two aces. McKendree got back within seven but the Cardinals rolled to the 25-15 win.
- With momentum on their side, Jewell grabbed a 9-6 lead in set five, with a 5-0 run, led by two kills from Ernt. Again, the Bearcats rallied to tie the set at 13. An error gave Jewell match point, but McKendree rallied off three consecutive points to escape with the win.
