ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a midweek Great Lakes Valley Conference match up at Maryville on Tuesday by a final of 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals broke out to a 13-8 lead early in the opener before Maryville put together a rally, behind six kills from Taylor Keck to eventually take the lead, 20-16. Jewell got three kills and an ace to tie the set at 21 but the Saints won four of the final six points to win 25-23.
  • In set two, the Cardinals again grabbed a lead and Maryville responded to pull ahead but this time Jewell rallied and outscored the Saints 12-5 down the stretch to take the set 25-19.
  • Leading by two, 13-11, the Cardinals went on a 8-5 run to pull ahead, 21-16 behind three kills from Katy Garrison. The Saints got back within three but committed four errors late to give Jewell the 2-1 set advantage, winning 25-20.
  • In set four, the Cardinals trailed by as many as 11 before mounting a furious rally with a 9-2 run, aided by four kills from Garrison, to pull within 24-20 but an error gave the Saints the set and pushed the match to the deciding fifth set.
  • Maryville grabbed an early 4-1 lead in the finale and never looked back, winning 15-8.
