Volleyball Drops Tough Match with UIndy

LIBERTY, Mo. - After dropping two early sets, the William Jewell Volleyball team rallied to take set three and narrowly dropped the finale in extra points. The Cardinals fall to 5-12 on the season, 0-8 in GLVC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UIndy broke out to a 10 point lead early in set one and never looked back on their way to a 25-14 win.
  • In the second frame, the two teams traded points early until a 14-4 run by the Greyhounds made it a 22-12 game. An error broke the streak but UIndy won three of the final four points to take the set, 25-14.
  • After falling behind 11-8 in set three, the Cardinals got a kill from Hannah Cope and ace by Haidan Baade, combined with two Greyhound errors to retake the lead 12-11. On match point, the Cardinals got back-to-back kills by Cope and Anna Godfredsen followed by a block from Grace Baucom and Lily Johnson to come-from-behind to take the set, 26-24.
  • The finale was a tight one from the start with neither team gaining more than a three point advantage. Against match point, the Cardinals took advantage of two UIndy errors and a Baucom kill to turn the tide and gain set point themselves. However, the Greyhounds responded with three straight kills to win the set, 27-25, and the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Baucom and Godfredsen led the Cardinals with 12 kills each while Katy Garrison added 10.
  • Baucom and Garrison also added four blocks apiece while Chloe Robison was tops with six.
  • Cope dished out a season-best 32 assists while Jordan Collard finished with a career high 26 digs. Haidan Baaded added 16 digs while Godfredsen had a double-double with 11 pick ups.
