Cardinals Dominant From Start to Finish in Sweep of Illinois Springfield

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team bounced back on Saturday with a dominant sweep of Illinois Springfield by finals of 25-10, 25-17, 25-20. The Cardinals got their first victory in the GLVC with the win to improve to 6-12 on the season, 1-8 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell came out on fire in the first set jumping out to a 22-9 advantage behind six kills by Grace Baucom. A service error  gave UIS an additional point but the Cardinals got two kills and a Prairie Star error to finish off the set in dominating fashion.
  • Leading by one, 11-10 midway through set two, the Cardinals went on a 7-3 run, capped by a Hannah Cope kill to push their lead to 18-13. The Stars got back within three but back-to-back service aces from Haidan Baade put the set out of reach as Jewell won 25-17.
  • Jewell fell behind 5-1 to start three, the only time their trailed by more than two all day, but rallied with a 10-4 run on three kills each from Baucom and Anna Godfredsen to take an 11-9 lead. The Cardinals expanded the advantage to 23-17 before two errors and a UIS kill allowed the Stars to pull within three but Jewell scored the final two points to complete the sweep.
