LIBERTY, Mo. - For the second time in the
Chris McCabe era the William Jewell men's basketball team defeated a top-15 opponent, taking down No. 11 Washburn, 56-52 on Wednesday night in the Mabee Center. The upset moves the Cardinals to 2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- After Washburn made a three moments into the game, neither team put anything on the scoreboard for more than five minutes until Heri Tshiyoyo finally broke the ice for the Cardinals. The first half continued with a similar pace as points were few and far between for both teams with Jewell leading 21-17 at the intermission.
- The Cardinals pushed their lead to five early in the second half after a jumper from Mason Alexander and held the advantage until the 7:30 mark when a three from Washburn put the Ichabods back in front, 39-38. Macable Hughes tied things up with a turnaround jumper with under four minutes to play to spark a 8-2 run capped by a stepback triple by Jordan Jermain to put Jewell back on top for good, 50-46. John Zimmerman and Trey Shannon hit key free throws over the final 30 seconds to seal the upset.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
	- Kobe McKinley posted a double-double in the win, the first of his career, with 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Cardinals dominated the battle on the glass, 43-29.
- Jermain led the offense with 15 points while Tshiyoyo posted a game-high 12 rebounds.
- Normally a strong long range shooting team, the Cardinals went just 2-for-12 from three but countered with a stellar performance on the defense end, forcing Washburn into a 33.3% clip from the field and 22% from behind the arc.
