Turnovers Haunt Cardinals in 63-55 Loss at Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a 63-55 non-conference decision at Central Missouri on Tuesday night. The loss drops Jewell to 2-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals started strong, grabbing an early 8-3 lead after a basket by Kobe McKinley. Central Missouri responded with a 10-2 run to go on top but a three by John Zimmerman tied things up at 13 midway through the first half. Neither team was able to gain more than a four-point advantage the rest of the half as Jewell trailed by two at the break, 27-25.
  • After McKinley tied the game at 27 moments into the second half, Jewell went on an nearly eight minute scoring drought before Isaac Patterson gave the Cards their 30th point of the night. Despite the cold shooting, Jewell trailed by just eight with 11:08 to play. The Mules, however, followed with a 17-7 run to open up their largest lead of the day at 55-37. Another three by Zimmerman cut the deficit to 10 with under a minute to play while Patterson put the final under double digits with one of his own just before the buzzer.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McKinley led the Cardinals with 14 while Zimmerman tied his career high with 11 points off the bench.
  • Jewell held UCM to just 2-of-18 from three for 11.1% and won the battle on the glass, 35-27, led by seven boards from Heri Tshiyoyo.
  • The Cardinals forced Central Missouri into a season-high 13 turnovers but committed a season-high of their own with 22 leading to 22 points for the Mules.
