Cardinals Close Semester with Dominant Win Over Saint Mary

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team posted a dominant 96-51 win over Saint Mary on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Cardinals move back to .500 on the season at 5-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell jumped out to an early advantage only to see the Spires respond after a slow start and take their first lead of the night, 7-6 after a defensive rebound following by a quick layup. The Cardinals followed with a 29-4 run, led by nine points from Kobe McKinley, to open up a 35-11 lead. The teams played even over the last five minutes of the first half as Jewell led 47-23 at the break. 
  • The Cardinals grew their lead to as many as 45 after a triple from Macaleb Hughes and the Jewell bench scored 50 points. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Eleven players scored on the night, including four finished in double-figures led by Kobe McKinley with a career high of 21 to go with four steals.
  • Mawutor Nogoson came off the bench to post his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs. 
  • Mason Alexander added 11 points while Jordan Jermain chipped in 10. 
  • John Zimmerman shined, dishing out 10 assists, the most by a Cardinal since 2014. As a team, Jewell had 24 assists on 35 field goals, the most since January 2020. 
  • Jewell out-rebounded the Spires 46-30, including 11 on the offensive end, led by Nogoson's six. 

UP NEXT 
The Cardinals are off until January 2 when they travel to Drury University.
