Quincy Uses Second Half Three Point Barrage to Down Cardinals

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a 74-70 decision to Quincy University on Thursday evening to fall to 4-15 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell came out of the gates fast, scoring the game's first seven points but Quincy quickly rallied, taking an 11-10 lead with 13:23 remaining in the first half. The Cardinals finished the period on a 23-11 run, capped by a three from Mason Alexander to hold an 11-point advantage at the break.
  • Quincy brought things back to even at 41 a piece with 13:34 to play. Grant Stubbs scored six straight points to push Jewell back in front by four. With 10:40 to play and the Cardinals on top by five after a bucket by Trey Shannon, the Hawks outscored Jewell 26-16 over the next nine minutes to take a five-point lead. A three by Shannon with three seconds to play pulled the Cardinals within two but it was too little, too late as Quincy hit two free throws to make it a four-point final.

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Eysan Wiley, who had a double-double by halftime, led Jewell with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Jordan Jermain posted 11 points while Trey Shannon added 10 points and four assists.
  • Alexander had 16 points and four assists.
  • Jewell shot 42% from the field and made 11 three pointers on a 35% clip.

FOR THE HAWKS
  • Jack Youmans posted a game-high 27 points, including 25 in the second half, on 7-of-8 from behind the arc.
  • Adam Moore had 19 points while Charles Callier chipped in 12.
  • The Hawks went 11-of-16 from three in the second half, for 69%, after hitting just 2-of-13 triples in the opening 20 minutes.
