LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell women's basketball team survived a second half rally by Quincy University on Thursday night to defeat the Hawks, 62-54, and win their fourth game in a row. The Cardinals improve to 11-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With Quincy leading 6-5, Kiara Bradley hit a three that sparked a 16-2 run that ended in a 21-8 Cardinal lead after 10 minutes. Jewell extended their lead to as large as 19 after an offensive rebound and put back by Sydney Offield and led by 15 at the break.
- Quincy opened the second half on a 14-6 run to pull within seven just over three minutes into the period. The Cardinals finished the third quarter on another 12-4 spurt to push their lead back to 15. The Hawks again opened the next period by outscoring Jewell 21-6 over the first seven minutes to tie the game at 54 after a traditional three-point play by Sarah Nelson. The Cardinals did not allow Quincy to score again as Claire Burch scored six of the final eight points to secure the win.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Bradley posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists, two steals and a block.
- Offield and Rachel Schon added 11 points and seven and six rebounds, respectively.
- Burch chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
- The Cardinals shot 38% from the field and out-rebounded the Hawks 41-29.
FOR THE HAWKS
- Nelson led Quincy with a game-high 22 points while Aleksandra Petrovic added 11.
- Quincy shot 32% from the field but just 14% from three.
