Cardinals Fall Twice in Home Tri-Match

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's volleyball team dropped both ends of their home tri-match on Saturday. The Cardinals fell to No. 25 Indianapolis, 21-25, 25-18, 16-25, 18-25 before Truman won a three set match, 18-25, 22-25, 18-25. 

Match One
Jewell 1, #25 UIndy 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UIndy jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the opener but the Cardinals responded with a 6-2 run, led by two kills from Lacey Albers, to pull within two. With the Greyhounds leading 22-17, Jewell was able to score four of the next five, behind Kaci Behrens serve, to trail by just two, 23-21 but UIndy finished off the set, 25-21. 
  • Tied at nine in set two, Jewell outscored the Greyhounds 6-1 behind back-to-back aces by Katie Pain, to give the Cardinals a 16-10 advantage. Jewell outscored UIndy 8-5 over the final stretch to take the set, 25-18. 
  • The Greyhounds used another big run to open set three, leading by as many as 14. The Cardinals were able to stave off six straight set points but an error ended the run. 
  • With UIndy leading by two midway through the fourth set, the Greyhounds finished off with a 9-4 run to take the match. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Maddie Wingert led the Cardinals with 12 kills, while committing just one error, for a .379 attack percentage. 
  • Elizabeth Quinn added 11 kills with a .381 clip and four blocks while Grace Baucom chipped in 10 kills. 
  • Hannah Cope posted a career-high 43 assists. 
  • Haidan Baade had a game-high 22 digs while Behrens added 13. 
  • The Cardinals hit a season-high .228 while posting nine assists as a team. 

FOR THE GREYHOUNDS
  • Grace Hegwood posted 10 kills for the Greyhounds. 
  • Alex Equihua had a match-high 45 assists while Makenna Barnhart tied finished with 22 digs. 
 
Match Two
Jewell 0, Truman 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind early, Jewell rallied to pull within two, 13-11, following two kills from Anna Godfredsen. The Bulldogs pulled away late, outscoring the Cards 7-3 over the last 10 points. 
  • Trailing 12-8 early in set number two, Jewell went on a 10-3 run, led by three kills each from Godfredsen and Wingert, to take a 16-13 lead. Truman responded with a run of their own, 13-6, to take the set 25-22. 
  • The Bulldogs opened up an 18-9 lead and Jewell could not recover as Truman swept the match, 3-0. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Baucom topped Jewell with 11 kills with Godfredsen adding 10. 
  • Cope finished with 22 assists, while Meghan Schneider added 11. 
  • Baade again posted 22 digs with Cope finishing with 10 and Jordan Collard 12. 

FOR THE BULLDOGS
  • Morgan Smith had 10 kills and 12 digs to lead the Bulldogs. 
  • Katy Motz was tops with 20 assists while Lindsay Woltering had 21 digs. 
  • The Bulldogs finished with seven blocks as a team, led by four from Kate Benzing.

Jewell is back on the court next weekedn as they travel to Lewis University with a 7 p.m. matchup with the Flyers.
