KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team wrapped up the four game series with Truman on Sunday in downtown Kansas City, splitting the day, and the series, with scores of 11-9 and 4-8.
GAME ONE
Jewell 11, Truman 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a big first inning as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the top half before Jewell responded with two in the bottom on RBI by Anthony Hansen and Alex Epp.
- The Cardinals took the lead in the following frame as Arian Jimenez-Quezada singled and scored on a Cameron Fliege base hit, followed by a fielder's choice RBI by Jade Smoot.
- Truman responded immediately with two runs of their own, on three hits, to go back in front, 5-4.
- Cole Conner doubled in the bottom of the third to score Epp and tie the game. Jake Wilcox followed with an RBI infield single to put the Cards back on top.
- Jewell extended their lead to four in the fourth behind a three-run home run by Epp.
- The Cardinals added two more in the sixth on RBI by Conner and Wilcox to take a six run advantage into the final frame.
- Truman made things interesting in the seventh, scoring four runs on four hits but Jake MacDonald came on to shut the door.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Jewell pounded out 15 htis, led by three from Wilcox. Hansen, Fliege, Smoot, Conner and Jimenez-Quezada all had two hits apiece.
- Reed Pegram (2-1) earned his second win, tossing six innings and striking out seven.
- MacDonald recorded his first save, striking out two and earning the final two outs.
GAME TWO
Jewell 4, Truman 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Truman scored first in the nightcap, with a run in the second. The Cardinals tied things up in the third on an RBI single by Jimenez-Quezada.
- The Bulldogs got a solo home run from Carter to lead off the fourth and an additional two runs on three hits in the eighth to push their lead to 4-2.
- Jewell rallied in the bottom of the inning, as Nick Modrcin tripled scoring Smoot before Jack Lortz crossed the plate on a wild pitch to tie the game at four.
- Truman put up four runs on two hits in the ninth to get the win.
FOR THE CARDINALS
- Hansen had two hits to lead the Cardinals who had nine total as a team.
- Mack Stephenson (1-2) received the loss, working one-third of an inning.
UP NEXT
Jewell will take a break from GLVC play on Tuesday as they host Northwest Missouri State at 3 p.m.
