Cardinals Take Midweek Game With Northwest Missouri State, 6-1

LIBERTY, Mo. - In their return to Talley Stadium, the William Jewell baseball team secured a 6-1 non-conference win over Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals jumped all over the Northwest starter, scoring two runs on three hits in the opening inning, capped by a Nick Modrcin RBI double down the right field line. 
  • Modrcin came through again in the third as Cameron Fliege singled and came around to score on a base knock from the Cardinal first baseman. 
  • Arian Jimenez-Quezada led off the sixth with a solo home run, the first of his Jewell career, to extend the lead to four. 
  • The Bearcats got on the board in the seventh with an RBI groundout by Peter Carlson but Jewell put two more across the plate on a single by Cole Conner

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Jewell broke out for 15 hits, as Conner went 4-for-4 and Modrcin was 3-for-3, both finished wtith two RBI. 
  • Fliege had two hits and scored two runs. 
  • Alex Schneider (1-3) went six strong innings, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out seven. 

FOR THE BEARCATS
  • The Jewell pitching staff held the Bearcats to four hits, led by two from Connor Quick.  
  • Jonny McIntyre (0-2) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits over two innings. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will jump back into the GLVC play this weekend with a four-game series at Quincy University. Game one is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
