Cardinals Drop Two at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - The William Jewell baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Quincy University on Saturday on the road, falling 9-5 and 10-1. 

GAME ONE
Jewell 5, Quincy 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals scored early in the opner as Cameron Fliege singled to left field, scoring Jake Wilcox. Conner reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Anthony Hansen to cross the plate. 
  • Quincy got one back in the bottom of the second with a solo home run before adding two in the following frame to take their first lead. The Hawks exploded for six runs on four hits in the fifth inning to push their advantage to seven. 
  • In the top of the sixth Conner and Jade Smoot singled and scored on a three-run home run off the bat of Alex Epp

FOR THE CARDINALS
  • Conner finished with two hits while Epp had three RBI. 
  • Jake MacDonald (1-1) took the loss, working 1.2 innings.  

GAME ONE
Jewell 5, Quincy 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell got on the board first in game two as  Smoot doubled down the left field line before crossing the plate on an RBI groundout by  Conner. 
  • The Hawks plated three in the bottom of the third to take the lead before adding three more in the fourth and additional fifth to bring the score to the finale. 

FOR THE CARDINALS
  •  The Cardinals had five hits, led by two from Smoot. 
  • Shane Cavallo (2-2) suffered the loss. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals and Hawks will wrap up the the four-game series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
