Cardinals Return Home to Host Southern Indiana, UIndy

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team returns home this weekend for one of the tougher weekends on the schedule as they host Southern Indiana followed by No. 9 Indianapolis.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a strong showing over the weekend with a sweep of Southwest Baptist, by final scores of 1-0 in 10 innings and 5-1. 
  • The pitching was impressive for the Cardinals as Aly Manhart and Kenzie Jones combined to allow just one run and three hits over 17 innings of play. For the second time this season Manhart tossed a 10-inning contest, this time coming out on top while Jones put together her best outing of the year with a seven inning, one hit performance. 
  • Allison Rawls continues to lead the offense with a .351 average on 27 hits with five doubles, 14 runs and 13 RBI, all team highs. 
  • Sabrina Olmo has shown that she will be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years, hitting .292 with 13 runs and 10 stolen bases. 

ABOUT SOUTHERN INDIANA 
  • Southern Indiana comes into this week's meeting with an overall mark of 5-14 and 3-9 in league play after dropping four games to UIndy and McKendree last weekend. 
  • Two players, Mackenzie Bedrick and Alicia Webb, boas batting averages over .400 with 25 and 26 hits, respectively. The latter also has a team-best eight doubles and 12 RBI. 
  • Allie Goodin and Katie Back have each appeared in 12 games with nine starts, while posting ERAs of 3.75 and 4.86, combining for 66 strikeouts. 
  • Sue Kunkle is in her 20th year at the helm of the Screaming Eagle program and has led USI to the NCAA II Tournament in five straight seasons, including the 2018 National Championship. 

ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS
  • One of the hottest teams in Division II, UIndy enters the weekend at 21-2, 12-0 in the GLVC and ranked No. 9 in the nation, having won 14 in a row. 
  • The Greyhounds lead the conference in most statistical categories, including batting average, runs, RBI, home runs, ERA, opponent batting average, and strikeouts. 
  • Haylie Foster is tops on the team with a .435 average on 27 hits, including three homes. Gianni Iannantone has a team-leading 25 RBI while Emily O'Connor adds 21. 
  • In the circle, the Greyhounds boast a team ERA of just 1.21, led by Hallie Waters' 1.05 over 14 appearances. 
  • Melissa Frost is in her 16th year leading the UIndy program and is the all-time winningest coach and five-time GLVC Coach
