LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team suffered a 1-0 loss in the series opener against Rockhurst on Friday afternoon at Talley Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After both teams threatened in the opening two innings the starters settled, combining for just three total hits over the next six frames. 
• In the top of the ninth Tyler Stamer doubled to left field and scored on a throwing error for the game's only run. 

FOR THE CARDINALS

• The Cardinals were limited to two hits, one each by Anthony Hansen and Cole Conner. 
• The starter, Mack Stephenson, threw six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out a season-high seven.
• Reed Pegram (3-2) took the loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits over 2.1 innings.
