COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The William Jewell volleyball team split day two of the Mountain Lion Invitational, hosted by UC-Colorado Springs, falling to No. 4 Washburn, 3-0 before defeating Lubbock Christian, 3-1.
Game 1 vs. Washburn
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washburn used an 11-3 run midway through the opening set to open up an eight point lead. Jewell got back within six but another 6-2 spurt gave WU the set, 25-14.
- The Ichabods held the Cardinals to a -.067 attack percentage in the second set on their way to a 25-9 win.
- Set three was the best of the match for the Cardinals, hitting .279. After Washburn took a 10-4 lead, the Cardinals rallied behind two kills from Chloe Robison to pull within two. With Washburn leading by eight late, Jewell held off four straight match points with two blocks by Paityn Hardison, before the Ichabods finished things off, 25-20.

- Bella LaPorta led the offense with seven kills as Hannah Cope posted 12 assists.
- The Cardinals were held to an .083 attack percentage, compared to .350 by the No. 4 ranked Ichabods.

- LaPorta again led the Cardinals with a career-best 13 kills, followed by Lily Johnson's 11. Johnson and Robison also finished with three blocks each.
- Samantha Thompson dished out a career-best 36 assists while posting her first double-double with 12 digs.
- Jordan Collard had a game-high 18 digs.
- Jewell hit .302 as a team, the first time above .300 since September 2019.
