KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team fell 3-0 on Thursday evening in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at No. 22 Rockhurst. The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in league play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals got off to a rough start, falling in a quick 4-0 hole, forcing coach Carolyn Beck to call timeout. The Hawks expanded their lead to as many as 11 late, winning 25-14. 
• Tied at six in the second set, Rockhurst went on a 5-0 run to open up an 11-6 lead and never looked back, taking the set 25-14. 
• The Hawks opened up a 20-15 lead in the third set before the Cardinals mounted a rally behind a kill and back-to-back aces from Samantha Thompson to tie things up at 20. The teams traded points, with each holding set point twice before consecutive kills gave Rockhurst the match, 29-27. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jordan Collard picked up a match high 20 digs while Thompson had 24 assists.
• Lily Johnson finished with nine blocks and two blocks. 
• The Cardinals were held to an .098 attack percentage, compared to Rockhurst's .365.
