LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team wrapped up a tough opening week of GLVC play, falling 3-1 to No. 15 Lewis University. The Cardinals drop to 4-6 on the year and 0-2 in GLVC action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals dug an 8-2 hole early in the first set and could not recover, falling 25-16. 
• With Lewis leading 12-8, the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run with kills by Paityn Hardison and Katy Garrison, and aided by six Flyer hitting errors to take an 18-14 lead. Lewis would eventually tie things up at 24 but back-to-back kills from Lily Johnson gave Jewell the set. 
• Set three was another closely contested battle early. Kills from Chloe Robison and Bella LaPorta got the Cardinals within two, 17-15, but the Flyers were able to score 8 of the final 12 points to win 25-19. 
• With Jewell trailing by just three, 10-7, early in set four, Lewis outscored the Cardinals 15-6 down the stretch. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Johnson, Garrison and LaPorta each finished with eight kills to lead the team. 
• Jordan Collard dug up a career-best 21 balls while Hardison added 17 and Haidan Baade, 10. 
• Jewell posted seven blocks to Lewis' four, led by five from Johnson.
