Cardinals Shutout Ohio Dominican in Second Half but Fall

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell football team dropped a 35-25 decision to Ohio Dominican on Saturday at Greene Stadium. The Cardinals, who drop to 0-3, were able to shutout the Panthers in the second half but only scored once more in the final 30 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ohio Dominican jumped out on top early with a 75 yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game to take a 7-0 lead, just eight seconds into play. The Panthers added another quick score just over two minutes later to hold a quick 14-0 advantage.
  • The Cardinals found a rhythm on the ensuing drive, taking advantage of a key penalty at the goal line by ODU, allowing Anthony Pritzel to run it in and put Jewell on the board.
  • Trailing 21-7, freshman kicker Josh Click hit a 48-yard field goal, four yards shy of the school record, to make it 21-10.
  • ODU added another score but the Cardinals responded again with a 49-yard touchdown connection from Pritzel to Grant Latina to bring it back within 11.
  • After 52 points were scored in the opening half, both defenses stepped up in the second. The only score came midway through the fourth quarter as Pritzel found Jalik Jaggwe from four yards out to reach the end zone. Jewell went for two as Latina's rush was good to bring the score to a 10-point difference.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Pritzel went 26-of-49 for 300 yards and two touchdowns through the air while rushing for another score.
  • Tabren Yates led the team with 79 rushing yards Latina put up the 100 yard receiving game of his career with 107.
  • The Cardinals forced ODU into five punts and two turnovers on downs while not allowing a point in the final two quarters. This was the first time since September 21, 2019 that Jewell shutout an opponent in the second half.
  • Kobe Oldfield and Adam Callahan finished with a team-high seven tackles, with the former have 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
  • Evan Sanders posted a game-high two break ups.
