Defense Posts 60 Digs, 10 Blocks but Cardinals Fall to Southwest Baptist

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team put together a solid defensive effort over the final two sets on Tuesday night but came up short in a 3-0 loss to Southwest Baptist. The Cardinals drop to 4-9 on the season, 0-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bearcats wasted little time in the opening set, taking a 22-4 lead on their way to winning 25-7.
  • Set two was closer as each team traded points until late. With Jewell leading 19-18, SBU went on a 5-1 run to take a 23-20 lead. The Cardinals got a kill from Paityn Hardison to pull back within one but a Bearcat kill and Jewell error ended the set 25-23.
  • The Cardinals took the early lead in set three, 8-4 after kills by Tatum Ernt and Lily Johnson only to see SBU rally and go in front, 15-12. Jewell responded with a 12-6 run capped by back-to-back kills from Johnson to get to set point, 24-21. The Bearcats mounted a comeback late, eventually taking the lead 25-24. The final stretch included three ties and three lead changes before SBU took the set, 29-27.
