LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team won their eighth game season, and sixth in the last seven, by defeating Drury University 68-58 on Thursday evening. The Cardinals move to 8-6 on the year and 4-2 in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Drury jumped out to an early 12-6 lead, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 run led by two three pointers from both Trey Shannon and Grant Stubbs. Shannon hit two more triples over the five minutes to build the lead to nine, 26-17. The Panthers hit a jumper with just over a minute left in the opening half, to make it a 38-31 Jewell at the break.
- The Cardinals came out of the intermission firing, quickly pushing their lead to 14, after back-to-back jumpers from Heri Tshiyoyo. Jewell maintained a double-double digit lead for the duration of the game on their way to the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Shannon poured in a career-high 20 points, on 6-of-10 from three, while adding four rebounds, playing in every minute, for fifth time this season.
- Stubbs added 14 points, nine rebounds, including five offensive, with a career-high three blocks.
- Tshiyoyo and Kobe McKinley added 10 points with the former pulling down eight rebounds.
- The Cardinals out-rebounded Drury 43-36, including a season-high 18 offensive boards while blocking seven shots, the most since November 2020.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will rematch with the Miners of Missouri S&T on Saturday. Jewell won the first meeting, 81-77, in early December.
