LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a GLVC matchup on Thursday night in the Mabee Center by a final of 72-59. The loss drops the Cardinals to 10-9 on the season and 6-5 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams started slow offensively, combining for just nine points through the first five minutes. McKendree went on a 13-4 run to go on top by 10 at the under eight time out. The Cardinals followed with a quick 8-0 run, capped by a three by Grant Stubbs to get back within two, 18-16 but the Bearcats closed the half on an 11-4 run of their own to hold a nine-point advantage at the break. 
• McKendree pushed their lead to 12 just over a minute into the second half before the Cards went on a 20-7 run, led by nine points from Jordan Jermain, over the next six minutes to go back in front, 42-41.
• The lead was short lived, however, as the Bearcats followed by outscoring Jewell 31-11 over the following 10 minutes to grab their largest lead of the night at 72-53. The Cardinal bench got a three from Luke Jordan and a bucket by Isaac Patterson over the final minute to bring the score to the final. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jermain paced the Cardinals with 20 points while Kobe McKinley added a dozen and Trey Shannon 10. 
• Heri Tshiyoyo pulled down a game high 11 rebounds while handing out three assists. 
• Jewell shot 41% from the floor and 35% from behind the arc but connected on just 11-of-20 from the free throw line.
