Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late Scoring Drought Sinks Cardinals Against UMSL

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team rallied from  down as many as 15 to take a second half lead but went without a field goal for the final minutes and came up short against Missouri-St. Louis by a final of 71-61. The loss drops the Cardinals to 10-10 on the season and 6-6 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals got off to a strong start, hitting five of their first eight shots to maintain an early lead. Jewell went on a quick 7-0 run after a layup from Grant Stubbs to go on top by five with under 12 minutes to play in the opening half.
  • The Tritons followed by outscoring the Cards 27-14 to close the half and take an eight point lead into the break, 39-31.
  • UMSL expanded their lead to 15 early in the second half before Jewell began chipping away. Back-to-back triples by Trey Shannon and John Zimmerman cut the deficit to single digits before Jordan Jermain took over scoring 10 points over the next five minutes, capped by a three free throws to put Jewell back in front, 56-55.
  • The lead was short lived, however, as the Tritons finished on a 16-6 run and limited Jewell to just free throws over the final stretch to secure the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Heri Tshiyoyo posted his second double-double of the season with 13 points and a game high 13 rebounds as Jewell won the battle on the glass, 31-26.
  • Jermain finished with a game high 18 points while Zimmerman added 10 points.
