Cardinals Earn Key Road Win Over Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The William Jewell men's basketball team got an important 64-60 win on the road at Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Cardinals to 11-10 on the season, 7-6 in GLVC play, the most wins in the Chris McCabe era.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to take more than a five point lead until late. Trailing by one, Jordan Jermain hit back-to-back threes followed by a free throw from Kobe McKinley to put the Cardinals on top, 24-18.
  • The Screaming Eagles rallied and finished the half on a 10-4 run to hold a one point advantage at the break.
  • Southern Indiana led for nearly eight minutes to start the second half before McKinley went on a 6-0 run of his own, capped by a three with 12:08 to play to put Jewell back in front, 40-39.
  • Tied at 45, the Cardinals got a layup from Heri Tshiyoyo, followed by consecutive triples from Jermain and Mason Alexander to give Jewell their largest lead of the day at 53-45. USI did not go quietly, quickly closing the gap to just two but the Cards hit key free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
