LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped a 71-48 decision to Rockhurst University in the home opener of 2022. The Cardinals fall to 1-9 on the season, 0-4 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hawks jumped out to an early 11-3 lead but three straight free throws by Libby Arnold got Jewell back within five. Rockhurst finished the opening quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 16-6 lead. 
• After Rockhurst broke open a 15-point advantage, the Cardinals got back-to-back three pointers from Kate Hillyer late in the second quarter to pull the Cardinals back within 12 at the break, 35-23.
• Jewell started the second half strong, going on a 6-0 run after another triple from Hillyer and a traditional three point play by Katelynn Ostronic to pull back within six. The Hawks finished the period on a 22-7 run to open up a 21-point lead. 
• Rockhurst led by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter. A steal and layup by Dallas Carpenter brough the score to the final. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Hillyer led the way with 15 points and six rebounds.
• D'Asya Collier-Williams added six rebounds while Katie Knock had four points, five board, and four assists. 
• The Cardinals won the paint, outscoring the Hawks 22-18.
