LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team downed Truman State in five sets on Friday night after celebrating five seniors during pregame festivities. The Cardinals move to 13-14 on the season, marking the most wins under Carolyn Beck. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell started strong, breaking out to an 8-2 lead behind three kills from Bella LaPorta. After the Bulldogs pulled back within two, the Cardinals went on a 12-6 run to expand their advantage to 21-13. Kills by LaPorta and Tatum Ernt  ended things 25-16 in favor of the Cardinals. 
• After Jewell opened a 10-4 lead early in the second set, Truman rallied to take a 22-20 lead. A kill from Katie Paine got the Cards back within one but a Truman kill and two Jewell errors ended the set 25-21, and tied the match at one apiece. 
• Another Paine kill late in set three tied things up at 22 but that was just the first of a string of ties to come. It took six set points, to finally finish things off as the Cardinals came from down one to win after a LaPorta kill and service ace from Haidan Baade, 30-28. 
• Jewell held a 20-17 lead in set four but the Bulldogs finished on an 8-3 run to win 25-23 and force set three. 
• After back-to-back errors the Cardinals fell in an 8-6 in the finale but then went on a 8-3 run to pull ahead 14-11 after a kill from Anna Godfredsen and a Bulldog error finished things off, 15-12. 

KEY STATS

• LaPorta finished with 21 kills and 20 digs while Alex Dvorak posted a season best 17 kills on a .467 attack percentage, to go with six blocks. 
• Baade posted 20 digs and a match high four aces. 
• Samantha Thompson posted 29 assists with Drew Baxter picking up 27.

Jewell will round out the season next Saturday afternoon as they head to crossover rival Rockhurst. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
