ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of No. 20 Lewis University on Sunday afternoon on the road. The Cardinals fall to 8-13 on the season and 1-7 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Lewis jumped out to a 16-6 lead and never looked back, taking the opener 25-10. 
• After falling behind 18-11 in set two, the Cardinals rallied, going on a 9-1 run to tie things up at 20-all. The Flyers went back in front by two but Bella LaPorta took over recording three kills as Jewell took the final five points to win 25-22. 
• With Lewis leading 11-4 early in set three, Jewell put together a 6-2 run aided by five Flyer errors and another LaPorta kill to pull within 15-11. Lewis finished on a 10-4 run to win 25-15. 
• The fourth frame was back-and-forth early until the Flyers went on a 4-0 run to go out in front, but the Cardinals responded with a four point spurt of their own capped by a kill from Anna Godfredsen to knot the score up at 19. Lewis won six of the final seven points to take the set and the match. 

KEY STATS

• LaPorta led Jewell with 13 kills to go with eight digs and three blocks. 
• Alex Dvorak chipped in seven kills and six blocks while Katie Paine also had three rejections. 
• Haidan Baade finished with a team high 16 digs while Samantha Thompson and Drew Baxter each had 14 assists. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals take a break from GLVC play next weekend as they head to the annual Midwest Region Crossover. Opponents are determined by current conference standings and will be announced early next week.
