HAMMOND, Ind. - The William Jewell men's basketball team suffered through cold shooting on Saturday afternoon, being dealt a 77-62 loss by Purdue Northwest to drop to 1-1 on the young season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After getting on the board first on a bucket from Kobe McKinley, the Cardinals were outscored 27-11 over the next 12 minutes to trail by 14. 
• Jewell closed the half strong, cutting the deficit down to five as Trey Shannon scored nine points over the last five minutes to pull the Cards within 40-35 at the break.
• The momentum stayed with Jewell to start the second half as Shannon hit a three to cut the the Pride lead to just two, but Purdue Northwest followed with an 23-9 run to go back in front by 16 and never relinquished the lead. 

KEY STATS

• Mason Alexander posted a team high 15 points while Shannon added 14 and three assists. 
• McKinley posted the first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. 
• Jewell shot 32.4% from the field, including just 25% in the second half. 
• The Cardinals out-rebounded Purdue Northwest 40-34 with 13 second chance points.
